How to prepare DXF files for part nesting
From a separate closed outline to a checked DXF for each sheet: files, millimetres, quantities, rotations, spacing and part-in-part nesting.
One file per part
Save each separate shape in its own DXF. Holes inside its outer boundary are allowed. Several disconnected shapes in one file are rejected, even when identical; set repeat quantities after upload. Remove drawing borders, neighbouring parts and construction contours before exporting the source file.
Millimetres and scale
Prepare flat geometry at 1:1 and check the DXF units. Compare the displayed dimensions after upload with the real part. Sheet sizes, spacing and edge margins use millimetres. If dimensions differ by a factor of 25.4 or 1000, fix units in the source CAD and upload again.
Closed contours and file errors
Outer boundaries and holes must be closed, non-intersecting 2D contours in Z=0. Remove duplicates and open segments. If a file is rejected, read the reason. Available repairs are checked again and cannot recover every drawing. Text and dimension annotations are not cutting contours.
Quantities, spacing, margins and rotation
Set the quantity for every accepted part. Margins reduce the usable sheet on all sides; spacing controls separation between parts. The default allows quarter turns. Restrict orientations for directional material. Select process-appropriate spacing: it does not automatically compensate for kerf or cutter diameter.
Parts inside holes
Enable part-in-part placement to use suitable cavities in larger parts while retaining the specified gap. Nested frames with contents are possible where geometry allows. In CAM, cut inner parts and holes before the outer contours of their parents. Check material support and workholding before production.
Download and inspect before cutting
An intermediate image means the search is continuing; the final result is marked complete. Download the ZIP or a physical sheet's DXF. CUT contains part contours; SHEET is the stock boundary and must not be cut. Check units, counts, gaps and operations in CAM. SVG and G-code are not exported.
